TV Channel G4 held their third annual G-Phoria video game awards in the fall of 2005. The show, taped at the Los Angeles Center Studios was heavy on entertainment value. Hosted by Wilmer Valderrama (actor on That 70s Show) the awards included presenters like Tommy Chong and William Shatner. The event was held outdoors and gave fans opportunities to play several up and coming games including Xbox 360 titles Condemned: Criminal Origins, King Kong, Shadow of the Colossus, Guitar Heroes and Genji.

Gamers Pick the Winners

How were the award-winners chosen? Gamers had the opportunity to vote online and via mobile text messaging. More than a million votes were cast. Given this, there were few surprises; award winners were largely games that have been commercially successful.

Game of the Year

The biggest winner at the show was Halo 2 which took home "Game of the Year", "Best Shooter", "Best Multiplayer Game", and "Best Boss" awards. The game was also honored for its sound design, original soundtrack and male voice performance.
