BlizzCon 2005

Blizzard Entertainment has announced the inaugural BlizzCon to be held at the Anaheim Convention Center in Anaheim, California, on October 28-29th, 2005! BlizzCon is being touted as a celebration of the Warcraft, StarCraft, and Diablo franchises. Players are invited to spend the weekend gaming and socializing with Blizzard gamers and developers.

Serious Games Summit

The serious games summit is devoted to the development of non-entertainment games. Many fields, such as health, education, military, science, education, government and first responders use games for training, simulation research and other serious study. This summit is the 2nd annual gathering for those committed to developing games for these purposes. Register online.

MaxGames 2005

Compete in The Tech's fourth annual video game tournament on Saturday October 8th. The tournament is held at the Tech Museum of Innovation in San Jose, California. For more information visit the Tech's website.

IGN Live

IGN, online provide of video game and entertainment content is holding their firest annual IGN live event at the Anaheim convention center (to warm up the crowd for BlizzCon?). The convention includes panels with game publishers, developers and personalities and offers sneak peeks of games and tips on breaking into the industry. Game Developers Conference Europe

The fifth annual Game Developers Conference Europe (GDCE), will be held in London from August 30 to September 1. The GDCE allows the pan-European game development community to meet and network in order to advance the creation of next-generation interactive entertainment.

Speakers at the 3-day conference will include Phil Harrison, Vice President of Sony Computer Entertainment Europe and Keito Takahashi of Namco Japan.

On August 30th, the conference will include a one day seminar on mobile game technology, featuring speakers from leading mobile developers, publishers, handset manufacturers and carriers.

CTIA WIRELESS I.T. & Entertainment 2005

CTIA WIRELESS I.T. & Entertainment 2005 is a conference for wireless companies in the interactive entertainment industry. It is scheduled for September 27 though September 29 at the Moscone Center in San Francisco. Visit their website for registration information.

Game On Exhibit at The Tech

The Tech Museum of Innovation presents an exhibit devoted to the video game industry and game culture. The exhibit opens on September 30th, 2005 and features over 250 displays.

August 2005

Edinburgh International Entertainment Festival

The Edinburgh International Entertainment Festival. Scheduled for August 11-12 in Scotland, the popular event is gearing up for its third year. The festival will focus on the increasing connections among film, music, literature and interactive entertainment.

From August 10 – 14 the festival will feature an online gaming tournament called Go Play Games. The tournament will include game champions, game manufacturers for tips and tons of giveaways. Or, from the 11th to the 14th attend Game Screenings and meet members of the development teams from some of your favorite games. Looking for a game industry job? There will be experts on hand to guide you on breaking into the games industry.

Edinburgh International Entertainment Festival is also the host of the Edge Award and the BAFTA Interactive New Talent Award for creative innovation, technical excellence and production achievement by an individual. Major sponsors for the festival include Nintendo and Sony.
